This is the foal that Winnie adopted. Owie is our fourth adoption of a nurse mare foal (also see Nestle's story). These newborns are usually destroyed at birth. Their moms become pregnant for one purpose-their milk. They are shipped after giving birth to high-end stables, nurse the broodmare's foals so their moms can be bred every year, then returned pregnant, usually with the standing stud to begin the process once again. Their babies are half-breeds, not registered, and of no value to anyone. Except those who rescue. He came with Winnie when he was 4 months old: very spoiled and very mouthy. So he really needs boundaries, but also much love and understanding. After a little juggling, we paired him with Memphis. He is excelling in his training and feels like he belongs. Memphis has proven to be a good dad for him and we are all enjoying Owie's antics and growth.
"You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as His own children because God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying out, "Papa! Father!" Galations 4:6
